Wrapping Up This Year’s Sandhill Crane Photography

Sandhill Cranes during the Spring migration in Monte Vista, Colorado.

I have finally downloaded my 2023 Sandhill Crane photos and have produced a satisfying number of final edits. Most of which will go to my stock photography sites in the hope they will eventually earn enough to pay for the trip to make them. I play the long game here. Sandhill Cranes are a niche subject so the sales trickle in, rather than barge through the door. But that’s okay. I’m doing my thing and that thing is to find personal happiness in a world inundated with conflict and discontent. I’m not a discontent, so I’d rather make photos and enjoy my time here on earth than dwell on all the negative.

All that happy nonsense said, I figure that I’ve talked enough about the Sandhill Cranes this past month or so, it’s time to put up or shut up. Meaning, I should probably show a few images. Proof of purchase, kind of, but I’m not asking anyone to give me money. Just a look, a nod, maybe a comment here or there. That’s about all I’m trying to do these days. Staying relevant as a 65-year-old fart isn’t something I put a lot of thought into.

I’m not quite through with the editing but I have enough finished that I can give you a little peek at this year’s harvest. So here are a few more photographs from my recent photography trip. May you find them interesting, to some degree.

Dancing Sandhill Cranes
I fired off quite a few frames trying to catch the Cranes doing their dance.

My next order of business is to send my Nikon D850 in to Nikon for cleaning and calibration. It’s long overdue. I’ll have to limp along with one camera body for a few weeks in the meantime.
