House Keeping

Finally, Spring is here. It’s been a long cold Winter but things are improving here. The snow is gone for now but it is March and I’m sure Winter weather will return for an encore or two.

The birds are chirping in the yard now. I figured I’ll do a little chirping too, just to celebrate milder weather and the promise of Spring.

I finally broke the ice with my trip to Monte Vista. Did well there, lots of good photographs. Nice to get out with a couple of friends and actually do something.

I sent my D850 to Nikon for inspection, cleaning and calibration. It looks like they have finished that work and the camera is on the way back to me as of today. No reports of anything requiring repairs, it was a quick turnaround. We’ll see how it does next week when it should be delivered.

Like most old men, I have medical issues and I’ve spent the past 3 months getting caught up on all that Dr. business. I’ll be going in next week for my annual eye exam and for some new glasses. I’m pretty sure I have cataracts, but they aren’t too annoying yet. I can’t wait to hear what they tell me about it. I’m sure I’ll have to have them fixed at some point in the future. Like I said, old man stuff. Otherwise, I’m fairly healthy and actually feeling pretty good these days.

When the weather warms up a little more, I have some repairs to make on the deck around the hot tub. I don’t like crawling around on my hands and knees in cold weather, so they will wait until we get some summer like weather to work in.

We still have a few minor projects to complete inside the house. Mostly painting. We’re lazy though. It will take a severe bout of boredom to get us motivated to finish up that work. Our motto these days is “we’ll get to it after later.”

I have a few articles for the blog in the works, but they sit on the computer, unfinished. Nothing heavy duty to finish up, it just requires a little more research and motivation.

The next big thing will be to get the cabin opened up, probably some time in May. Not far off, I’m looking forward to spending more time in the mountains this summer. I decided a couple of years ago to stop organizing group moose photography trips. I did the grand finale on that last August. I had a lot of fun with friends and clients photographing moose over the past 10 years, but they were becoming a little too tedious to organize and manage for my sensibilities. I’m cutting back this summer to working alone or with the occasional friend and that’s about it. I think it was the pandemic that changed my mentality about it. The logistics are more difficult than they used to be, it’s easier to get out there on my own without having to deal with a bunch of other people. Fewer variables and problems that way.

That’s it for this week’s blogging. I’m going back to my cave now.
