Goofing Off

photograph of a white-tailed buck

It’s been fairly slow around here for the past few weeks. I did manage to get out for some photography with my buddy Tim this past Sunday and we had a lucky encounter with a group of white-tail deer.  Good timing too, as I’ve been sifting through my archive of deer photographs this past week, so I have a little fresh meat for the stock catalogs. Tim and I have informally agreed to make a weekly trip to Rocky Mountain Arsenal this winter. It’s always good to have something to look forward to. Keeps the cabin fever to a minimum. I’ll be looking for bighorn a little later this week.

I did find a little motivation to get up at 3 am on Tuesday morning to photograph the lunar eclipse but a cloudy sky didn’t provide me with much. Oh well. There will be another eclipse sooner or later. I seem to get clouded out about 50% of the time, so no worries.

On the home front, Trudy and I are settling into our winter groove. Trudy’s mom is doing well too. The dogs are happy. Life is good.

I have an upcoming birthday, which I never celebrate but Trudy bought me a Dash Cam for my SUV. That shows out for delivery today, so I’ll probably be playing with that thing when I go looking for bighorn. I’m not much on toys, but the Dash Cam qualifies as a toy in my mind. Something photography related to play with. I have visions of capturing video of cattle flying across the front of the car or something weird on the roads at some point. We’ll see how long I stay interested in it.

I have a few photography articles in various stages of completion, but I don’t know when I’ll finish them up or even IF I will finish them up. Depends on how bored I get I suppose.

I do have to put my SUV in the shop for some minor repairs in the next week or so. The fuel gauge is dancing around, which isn’t very informative. Hopefully it’s the sending unit, or maybe the fuel pump. It’s running okay though, so I suspect it’s the sending unit. I’ll have them look at another problem with the Heater/AC vent in the dash. It started flapping back and forth last winter but it’s not going to cure itself. They’ll probably have to remove the dash to fix a $20 part. It’s not the part it’s the labor. These are the things that happen to old vehicles but I’m not ready to drop $60k on a new SUV over a few hundred dollars in repairs every couple of years. The vehicle is in pretty good condition otherwise.

Okay, back to goofing off.
