In my research for Sony mirrorless gear, I’ve been tracking the prices of used Sony mirrorless camera bodies on eBay. Prices do fluctuate over time, but this gives you a quick snapshot of what Sony mirrorless bodies are selling for on eBay using Buy It Now. I don’t calculate auction sales, as I typically buy and sell gear with the Buy It Now option. Buy It Now is more immediate and cuts down wasted time on auction sales, which are subject to a number of sales problems.

I’ve been selling gear on eBay for years, and Buy It Now is the method I most generally use.

So, here is what I’m seeing right now for used Sony mirrorless cameras.  If you’re looking to buy or sell one of these, this might be a good starting point.

Sony A1 – Sony’s best camera. Full Retail = $6,499. Avg used value = $4,510. Used cameras are going for 69.4% of their full retail value.

Sony A9II – Sony’s second best camera. Full retail = $4,499. Avg used value = $2,200. Used cameras are going for 48.9% of their full retail value. This may be the best deal on a used Sony mirrorless camera at the moment if you are looking to buy. If you are looking to sell one, it’s the biggest loser. Interesting though, this is a really nice camera.

Sony A7R IV – Great high resolution pro grade camera. Full retail = $3,199. Avg used value = $1,860. Used cameras are going for 58.14% of their full retail value. Not a bad used value, I’ve normally estimated a used camera to be worth about 60 % of full retail.

Sony A7 IV – Good general purpose pro grade camera. Full retail = $2,498. Avg used value = $1,775. Used cameras are going for 71% of their full retail value. These bodies are holding their value and are in high demand. I’ve been watching these closely over the last couple of months but personally I’d wait to buy one. The A7R IV is a better value and has more resolution. Of course, if you are looking to sell one, right now may be the time to do it, as you’ll get top dollar for it.

This isn’t a comprehensive list of Sony A bodies, there are other models which I consider to be niche cameras. You’ll have to do your own research if you are looking for one of those. These are the bodies I am looking at for buying down the road. Choose your camera carefully.
