One Year Later

Waiting for my flight out of Bozeman, MT on this day last year

Winters run long in the Rocky Mountains.

I haven’t made a single serious photograph since this past December. Instead, I’ve been hanging out at home, taking care of family business and dealing with my own issues related to a pneumonia shot gone bad, which knocked me down pretty good for most of January.

No whining!

Remembering this day one year ago, I was traveling home from a trip to Yellowstone, flying out of Bozeman, MT. That was one gnarly day too. The airport was a mess, flights were delayed, and I spent the better part of the day chasing gates at the Bozeman airport trying to find my flight back to Denver. All of that was after spending a week in sub-zero temps photographing Yellowstone National Park.

So far this year, na-da, but things are about to change.

I’ve booked my hotel in Monte Vista for the annual sandhill crane migration for the second week of March, a trip I make every year. This year I’ll be working with a couple of friends who have made the trip with me in the past. A welcome change of pace from the winter blues here in Denver.

At the moment, my wife and I have been working at repainting and refurbishment of one of our bedrooms and two bathrooms. A good winter task that keeps me warm and motivated to do something productive. My guess is we’ll have this business all finished up before I head to Monte Vista.

In the meantime, stay warm, stay healthy and don’t poke your eye out.
