Cutting The Cable TV Cord

Verizon 5G Router
Verizon 5G Home Internet Router

The wife and I finally had enough of Comcast/Xfinity cable internet/tv. We had been checking on the Verizon 5G home wireless networking but Verizon didn’t have that service in our neighborhood. Until recently. We finally have the full 5G home internet available to us here, so we ordered it at a half-price monthly charge special which was about to expire. We got in under the wire.

I drove over to the local Verizon store, picked up the new 5G home router, and had the new network up and running in about an hour. Painless, seamless, fast and steady. Xfinity in this house is now kaput. Trudy is taking the equipment to the Xfinity store later today. The new 5G home network is just as fast as cable internet, works with our Verizon iPhones just great and I now have the home router in my office where I can keep an eye on it.

Of course, we lost our cable TV package when we dumped Xfinity cable internet and television, but Trudy’s son had told her about YouTube TV (not regular YouTube) having a better streaming channel lineup than cable. We checked it out and converted to YouTube TV Streaming services for about 50 bucks less per month than the lame-ass Xfinity cable channel lineup. This whole deal should save us over $100 a month and totally simplify our home network and television. Plus we have a better selection of television channels now, including local stations.

Another thing that convinced us was Xfinity having regular internet outages , typically on Saturdays. It would always happen when I was in the middle of something too. I can’t think of the last time we have experienced a Verizon outage on our phones, and using the iPhone hot-spot function has saved our internet activity many times. The Verizon 5G home router produces a much stronger signal throughout the house too. I have a television in the basement on the other side of the house from my 2nd floor office where the router is located. Signal strength is good, even in the basement.

Also, we can stream to our phones and iPad’s using the YouTube TV app and watch all our favorite programs just like at home. With all the televisions in our house having a Roku internet streaming stick, we don’t have a bunch of wires in the bedrooms either.

Our 5G router is rated up to 300 megabytes per second. An internet speed test comparison between Verizon 5G and Xfinity cable TV indicates about the same download speeds and stronger in house signals with Verizon. Verizon offers a 1000 megabyte download speed, but we went for the basic system at $35 per month for internet access.

We are quite happy so far. I can recommend the Verizon 5G home internet if you have it available in your area and can’t stand the cable service you have. It’s almost plug and play to get it working.

We’ve finally cut the cable TV cord and I couldn’t be happier.
