I've been a bad boy. Shame on me.

I’ve gone and done it now. The Getty photography police contacted me the other day regarding one of my moose photographs from 2018. I made a novelty edit of an image and uploaded it to the stock agency as a commercial stock photo. It was approved and has been online for about 6 years now. I think it’s actually sold a few copies.

I received an email from one of the Getty somebody’s in charge of making sure that everything in the world makes sense. It seems a customer noticed the image looked like one animal with two heads and made a complaint. Well of course, it’s the fictional Doctor Doolittle “pushmi-pullyu” animal, only in moose form and confusing as hell. This novelty edit tilted the world on it’s axis just enough to set off alarms somewhere in India.

I’ve been a bad boy. Shame on me.

Original photograph of two moose standing together.

And here is the edit that was uploaded to Getty and approved in 2018.

Not much difference. I blended the two moose bodies and removed some legs and a piece of tree.

I’m not certain that I understand the confusion and concern about this fictional creature. But, we don’t want to upset the photography police. They will come and get you and try to make sure everything photographic makes perfect sense and adheres to all the laws that haven’t been passed yet.

I informed Getty that they can edit the description or delete the image. I don’t really care. I’ll let the other stock agencies make money for me with it. In the meantime, it gives me something to write about.
