I made this photo on a misty summer morning in July of 2014 while hosting a workshop in Northern Colorado.
An eventful morning. We walked down a rugged hill in the pre-dawn darkness to get to the lake. As we approached the lake, off to our side in the darkness, this guy was standing in the trees, maybe 30 feet from us. He grunted a little, and then walked past us down the hill into the lake in front of us. After feeding on lake grass for a while, he decided to climb out of the lake and strolled right by us. At no point did he act annoyed at our presence but I can guarantee you that we kept still and behind some big trees and rocks while we shared his space with him.
It was an excellent day of moose photography.
