One of my personal favorite moose photographs, made in August of 2018.
I was out one morning and I came across this cow moose standing on a ridge in the fog.
I was able to pull the moose out of the fog a little bit in post-processing by modifying the tone-curve and using a de-haze filter in Adobe Lightroom. Nothing too heavy, just enough juice to give the image a nice feel. Ultimately, I ended up with this edit, which reminds me a bit of Rembrandt Lighting.
The shot was made hand held with a Nikon D750 using a Nikkor 70-200mm f/4 VR. Exposure is f/7.1, ISO 640 at 160mm with a shutter speed of 1/1000 sec, so the environment was actually on the bright side for exposure purposes.
The moose’s expression is perfect. She paused long enough to give me a glance, as if to say “what are you looking at?”, and then she strolled on over the ridge into the fog.
I am really happy with how this photograph came out.
