Mating Coyote

Male and Female coyote displaying mating behavior.

I always hope to capture behavioral photographs of my subjects.

I witnessed this pair of mating Coyote and made a few good photos of their mating behavior. The female (on the left) turned on her lover after the encounter. For the male, no good deed goes unpunished. Love bites.

It’s difficult to predict where to find a coyote so I never go out looking for them specifically. They are usually targets of opportunity. I’ve seen them in my suburban neighborhood and in desolate remote areas. They are not afraid to wander into populated areas.

I have photographed Coyote many times. They are a common sight in Colorado, thriving in a variety of habitats, from the plains to the mountains and even urban areas. These adaptable creatures have played a significant role in the state’s ecosystem for centuries.

Coyotes are medium-sized canines, typically weighing between 20 and 50 pounds.

As a wildlife photographer, I always hope to capture behavioral photographs of my subjects. In this case, I got a great example of Coyote mating behavior.
