Cassin's Kingbird perched on a barbed wire fence.

Colorado Wildlife - Cassin's Kingbird, sitting on a barbed wire fence in a Colorado field.

The bird is the word.

Here’s a photograph of mine that is published in the Audubon Field Guide.

The Cassin’s Kingbird.

I made this photo while cruising the back roads of Colorado and I found it sitting on the barbed wire next to the road just a few feet from me.

Swing the camera out the drivers window, focus and hit the shutter button. The bird is the word.

I put the image in my stock portfolio and Audubon purchased it for use in their Field Guide.

A publishing credit for me in a reputable publication and the birders go-to source for identifying birds.

Lessons learned.

1. Birds are a great photographic subject.

2. The best exposure is paid exposure.

3. Sometimes the little things count.
