photograph of a steam train

Union Pacific 844 - Cheyenne, Wyoming.

I used to chase this train between Denver and Cheyenne

The Union Pacific Railroad doesn’t run this locomotive very often these days. It’s been replaced by the 4014 Big Boy which was returned to service in 2019 after years of restoration. But, this is a gigantic locomotive and for many years it was the flagship steam operator for the railroad.

I used to chase this train between Denver and Cheyenne and in this photograph, it is returning to the Cheyenne rail-yard at the end of one of those chases. I do wish they would bring it out of retirement, but resources are limited and maintaining two large steam locomotives isn’t cheap.

I tend to try out black & white conversions on these old trains. It sorta gives them a timeless look.
