Honey Bees in action

Honey Bees and Bee Weed in my garden.

A summer pastime for an old man with a camera.

Every year in August, my backyard garden attracts lots of honey bees. My secret is to grow bee-weed (Cleomella serrulata.)

Bee-weed as it is commonly called here, is a native plant and it’s fairly invasive. But, it’s pretty and if you like to help the honey bees, it’s a great addition to a garden, if kept in control.

So, on my boring days of laziness during August, I sit on my back porch and watch the honey bees, bumble bees, paper wasps and other flying insects going to work. I consider honey bees to be friendly, but some people are afraid of them. The bee-weed in my garden is beginning to fade and it won’t be long before I have to clean them out. But, the honey bees will return next year and I’ll waste more summer days making photos of them.
