Autumn Color on the Dallas Divide in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado

This year will be a bit more nomadic than recent years.

The time for me to leave out for this year’s fall color photography trip is rapidly approaching. My trip begins one week from today on September 29th.

This year will be a bit more nomadic than recent years. We will be working in the San Juan Mountains once again, traveling with my photography friend Jonathan Steele. You can look at Jonathan’s photography here.

The feature photo was made in the San Juan Mountains, from one of my workshops in late September of 2017.

We may make a pass at Crested Butte on the way out. Our exact travel itinerary hasn’t been finalized, but Crested Butte is kind of on the way, and it’s always a good place to visit in Autumn.

Here’s a photo from Crested Butte, made on the first trip Jon and I did together together in 2015.

When we finish up in the San Juan Mountains, we hope to go to New Mexico and photograph the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. We attempted this trip last year (2023) but I contracted COVID on the first day there and we never finished the job. Sometimes things are out of your control. Last year at this time was pretty rough on me, but I have a strong motivation to get it done this year. Wish me luck.
