Henson Ghost Town near Lake City, Colorado. Engineer Pass.
My ongoing project of photographing Colorado ghost towns and abandoned places continues.
A recent road trip took me to Lake City, Colorado where I intended to photograph the ghost town of Henson. The day we arrived in Lake City, the manager of our hotel pointed out the ghost town of Capitol City, which as it turns out was on the same road up Engineer Pass, just further up the mountain. At the time, I confused Capitol City with my intended target of Henson.
So, up the pass we drive, headed for Capitol City thinking it was the original ghost town I wanted to photograph and along the way we pass through Henson, another abandoned mining town along the road. We drove on through and made it to Capitol City, where we got our shots. I say “we” as Jon Steele was with me and he brought his drone.

On the way back down the mountain, we stopped at the abandoned Henson mine and I photographed it as well, thinking it was just extra gravy.

But, as I find out sorting through my photographs, there were actually two known ghost towns along that road and I managed to photograph them both.
I call that ghost town good fortune.
