Nevadaville, Colorado, is a historic ghost town located in Gilpin County, approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Central City. It sits at an elevation of about 9,121 feet (2,780 meters).
Founded in 1859 during the Colorado Gold Rush, it was initially called Nevada City. Back then, it was a significant mining town, even surpassing Central City for a while.
By 1900, gold and silver dwindled, leading to a population exodus.
Today, only a handful of residents remain. However, the town isn’t completely abandoned. You’ll still see some original buildings, including a saloon, a city hall, and even a Masonic lodge that surprisingly still holds meetings. The area is also considered private property, so you can explore the town but can’t enter the buildings.
