I am two weeks into my switch from Facebook to Reddit as my social media platform.
I use social media to display some of my photography and interact with other people outside of my normal private circles.
I founded a private Facebook photography group over 10 years ago, and it was a lot of fun to interact with the 1,200 or so members in that group. On my Facebook personal profile, I had accumulated about 950 Facebook friends. I left all that behind when I quit Facebook.
Do I regret leaving Facebook? No.
While I enjoyed many of the things I did on Facebook, I didn’t enjoy many other things.
Another thing about Facebook I discovered, my presence was actually a “niche” and my photography was simply not being seen by a lot of people outside of the group or my main profile. In my photography group, my posts would normally be viewed between 50-100 times during any given week, and many of the users in that group received even fewer view counts. It was a waste of time.
The above screen shot shows what one of my landscape photos received in the way of views during it’s first two days of being online on Reddit. Over 2,900 views in two days, and I don’t know how many more views it’s had since then, but I’m sure it’s a pretty high number.
Additionally, thanks to moving to Reddit, my website traffic has increased by over 10 times. The Reddit members are clicking through and going to my website. That was not happening to a large degree on Facebook.
The bottom line, I’m just getting started on Reddit and for my purposes, it has left Facebook in the dust. Plus, there are far fewer distractions on Reddit than on Facebook. I should have made this move years ago.
So, for all my old Facebook friends, I encourage you to consider switching platforms. I’d love to hear from you. You’ll find Reddit to be far more robust and far less limiting for showing your photography, and interacting with others, just as easy as Facebook and far less cluttered with irrelevant and annoying content.

Stop in and say hello.
