Things Are About To Change

The Sandhill Crane Stick Dance

I’ve perked up recently and finished up a few articles that have been gathering dust.

It’s the week before my annual trip to Monte Vista for the sandhill crane migration. The camera gear is packed and the batteries are charged. Hotel reservations are made. My travel plans are pretty much complete, so I’ll be watching the weather reports, so I don’t get surprised by something seriously detrimental. The weather in Monte Vista is typically tolerable in early March, but there have been years where the weather has kind of fouled things up. Right now, the long-term 10-day forecast is looking like it’s going to be typical weather this year. I’ll take that.

It’s been a long, cold, snowy winter here in the suburbs of Denver. Most of the snow has melted, except for the stuff in the shadows that never sees direct sunlight. The driveway is clear, but I still have a small but melting iceberg at the end of the driveway that has been there since December. March is our snowiest month of the year, so I dare not think that I’m out of the woods when it comes to winter weather.

Most of my time since January has been consumed with taking care of personal family matters, getting myself healthy (hey, I’ve lost 11 lbs since early January), doing some refurbishing inside the house and scooping up the frozen dog poop in the yard.

I haven’t picked up a camera for serious photography since mid-December, but things are about to change.
