My most published image.

In my last blog post I discussed promoting yourself as a photographer.  Well, today, I’m going to promote myself as a photographer.

Today’s image is my best selling, most published photograph. If you follow me on the internet, you’ve probably seen it before. The thing about this photograph that boggles my mind is how viral it has been since I made it in 2017.

I was using Google reverse image search tools to find out where my photos are appearing on the internet. I know for a fact that I’ve sold over 3,000 copies of this photo over the past 5 years, and it continues to be one of my best selling images even today. I’ve seen it on the local TV stations as a backdrop, I’ve seen it on BING as a screen saver and I’ve seen it published on web sites more times than I can count.

I search for my images all the time, but I’ve only recently honed that skill to the point where I can find where I’m being published with much more detailed results than I was previously getting. When my search gives me a website link, I go to that website and confirm that one or more of my images are indeed published on that website. Once confirmed, I’ve been adding them to a list of publishers of my images.  My list is currently past 250 different websites and there is no doubt that I’ll find a ton more once I can get through the process. It’s slow and tedious. When I got to this image in my Google search, I got so many hits on this image that I literally had to take a break from searching. They just kept on coming and coming. I’ve always known this was a popular photo, but I had no idea of how prolifically it is being used by all kinds of websites, newspapers, magazines, and other professional service organizations.

One of the more interesting customers of mine is GOOGLE itself. If you do a Google search for “The San Juan Mountains”, at the very top of the Google search, you’ll see a number of my photographs displayed as part of the Google Knowledge Base. I am actually a photographic reference for Google search. Not bad at all.

So, today’s shameless plug of my own work, here’s a list of all the publications I’ve found that are publishing my photographs. This is a work in progress, so I’ll keep updating this when I feel the need to talk about myself in the future hahahaha…

The bottom line here, from my view of the road. I am probably the most published photographer in Colorado. That’s a bold claim, but I’m sticking to it. I haven’t seen anyone else getting this many publication credits and I know a lot of photographers in this state.

I posted some of this on Facebook a few days ago, but it was excessive in length and I took that post down, knowing I would follow up on this via my blog. Well here’s my followup.

Gary’s current list of publication credits. Some of these publishers are using more than one of my images. Some have used dozens of them and keep using them. I don’t count the images used, I count only the publisher, and only once, regardless of the number of images they have bought from me.
