Holed Up In The Mountains

Elkhorn Ghost Town
Elkhorn Ghost Town

My first week at the cabin in Red Feather Lakes is underway. For the moment, it’s just me and my two dogs. They are kind of grooving on it, as the smells and sounds are different from the Denver suburbs. Plus, they get to run at the nearby lakes every day.

Myself, I’m checking off some boxes this week. Poking around the village looking for moose and other wildlife. It’s quiet in the village at the moment, but with the Memorial Day holiday coming up, it’s going to get a little more busy as the week progresses.

I was out this past Sunday looking for a Ghost Town called Elkhorn, about 5 miles from my cabin. I’ve been driving around these mountains for dozens of years, but I have only recently learned of the location of several nearby ghost towns, so I’ll start checking those off the list.

There are several abandoned buildings here, and a few occupied homes in the area as well.

Later this week I will be visiting Manhattan, Rustic and Kinikinik.

I’ll share the photos when I have some.
